Aston Rowant lost three wickets in the final over – including two off the final two balls to suffer an agonising defeat at Radlett in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.

Rowant entered the final over with three wickets in hand, and a draw looking certain.

But when Tom Needham was bowled off the first ball, and Karl Penhale bowled off the fifth, it left No 11 Paul Humphreys needing to block the last delivery.

However, Humphreys was trapped leg before wicket as Radlett snatched an unlikely 43-run victory.

Earlier, Rowant restricted Radlett to 214-9 off 66 overs.

Wes Morrick (3-61) was the pick off the bowlers, while Rory Lyon (3-99) also chipped in.

Rowant were solid in the field with Shane Burger, who hit 79 off 123 balls, providing the visitors’ main resistance.

After Rowant lost Tim Morgan in the 11th over and Aaron Todd soon after, Morrick and Alex Jewell then added 75 for the third wicket, before Jewell (31) was controversially run out.

Rowant’s No 3 seemed past the stumps when the wicket was broken, but the umpire thought otherwise.

It was to prove a crucial decision as from 126-3, Rowant suffered a collapse, losing their next four wickets for 16 runs.

At 142-7 they were now looking to hang on for a draw.

But a sensational final over, saw their hopes blown away.
