MP Sports Cherwell League - Graham Scott's Match of the Day

Abingdon Vale got their season back on track by thrashing Twyford and climbing back into the top half of Division 2.

Vale’s batsmen have had a wretched start to the campaign, recording scores of 101, 88, 48 and 39 in their first four innings.

It was a different story on Saturday, when James Boon scored more on his own (109) than his team had managed in each of their previous games.

Boon was recalled early on after being bowled when the ball was ruled to have come off Twyford wicket-keeper Tom Cook’s pads.

He faced 95 balls and struck 17 fours and two straight sixes, while Twyford bowled and fielded like a pub team.

Boon shared a first-wicket partnership of 195 with Will Barker, who hit a neat 90 before being run out by James Cook.

Abingdon declared on 275-4 after 48 overs – one run short of their aggregate in the previous four matches – and soon reduced their visitors to 5-2.

Tanveer Nadeem (45) held them up for a while, but Paul White (4-45) and Nathan Conn (5-55) worked their way through the card to reduce Twyford to 79-8 and eventually 128 all out.
