ANDREW Tippet posted a double victory in the hurdles as Oxford City got off to a brilliant start by winning their Southern Men’s League Division 2 meeting at Hemel Hempstead.

Tippet took victory in the A string 110m hurdles, clocking 16.8 secs, before clocking 57.3 secs to win the 400m hurdles.

They were to prove important victories as City edged out Woking by just two points.

Under new manager Ashley Johnson, City fielded only 11 athletes, but they pulled together magnificently to cover all the scoring events.

Ben Kelsey claimed City’s only other A string victory as he threw 12.74m in the shot.

Johnson clocked 11.6 to finish second in the 100m, while John Robertson recorded 16.11.4 to finish second in the 5,000m.

In the B string events, newcomer Adam Muir took the supporters’ man-of-the-match award after a superb run and dramatic finish in the 800m, clocking a time of 2mins flat – a personal best, while fellow debutant Sayead Hashimi clocked 4.36.00 in the 1500m.

Result: 1 Oxford City 117pts, 2 Woking 115, 3 Serpentine 110, 4 Ealing 92.5, 5 Croydon 72.5.

  • RADLEY romped to an impressive win in their opening Men’s Southern League Division 3 West fixture at Bournemouth.

They dominated the track, in both A and B strings, in all events from 100m up to 1500m including 400m hurdles and both relays, dropping just one point from the maximum available of 56.

The best track performance came from under 17 athlete Ed O’Hara, who won the 400m hurdles in an impressive personal best of 61.7secs.

Sprinter Ben Owen did the double in 100m and 200m as well as gaining valuable points in the shot, javelin and pole vault.

Under 20 runner James Broughton did the B string sprint double, equalling his 100m personal best of 11.5 secs in his first race of the season.
