Pete Soane was the hat-trick hero as Faringdon Town lifted the North Berks Charity Shield with a 4-3 extra time victory over Drayton at Abingdon United.

Soane’s magnificent treble included the extra-time winner.

Martyn Hathaway also scored for Faringdon in an excellent match in which Drayton twice led through goals from Ian Smith and Billy Warner, while Rob Powell grabbed the equaliser in normal time.

Faringdon’s victory was soured by a broken leg for Chris Benson resulting from a crunching 50-50 tackle early in extra time.

Didcot Casuals Res, from Division 4, were celebrating after defeating holders, Shrivenham A 2-0 in the Nairne Paul Trophy final, also played Northcourt Road.

Ben Higgins scored with a half-volley shot in the first half, with a Matt Hampson own goal securing victory midway through the second.

Shrivenham, from Div-ision 3, had Jack Dodd sent off late on for preventing a goalscoring opportunity.

Benson Lions picked up their first piece of silverware when winning the Reading Challenge Jubilee Cup final 2-0 against Reading League Division 4 champions Frilsham & Yattendon Res.

Benson took advantage of the wide pitch at Newbury to go ahead after seven minutes thanks to Richie Grimshaw-Else’s looping header from the edge of the box Lions were rarely troubled, and victory was sealed when Steve Morley broke clear from halfway to score.

Meanwhile, Benson AFCRes take on Kintbury Rangers Res in the AG Kingham Cup at 2pm, while AFC Wallingford contest the North Berks Cup with Saxton Rovers at 7pm.
