Sandford St Martin pulled off a shock two-wicket win at home to Challow & Childrey in the Derek Primett Cup second round on Saturday.

Division 2 side Sandford scraped together a winning total of 130-8 after reducing Challow – promoted last season to the top flight – to just 129 all out.

Challow, choosing to bat first, were soon in trouble, collapsing to 18-4 after seven overs.

Steve Burry (30) led a recovery of sorts before Martin Anson wrestled back the initiative by taking 3-24.

Sandford’s reply also got off to a poor start, but Chris Thompson (33) rebuilt the innings as his side recovered from 33-4 after eight overs to clinch victory in the 33rd.

Horspath were also surprise casualties as they crashed to a two-wicket defeat at home to Wolverton Town, who were promoted from Division 3 last season.

A fine all-round performance by Andy Gosling proved the difference between the sides, as he took 4-31 in Horspath’s 150 all out and then hit an unbeaten 55 to ensure Town sneaked through to the last eight.

Gosling received support with the ball from Jamil Raja (3-41), while Jehan Moham-med’s 4-27 for the hosts proved to be in vain.

Another Division 1 side to slip to defeat were Oxford 2nd, swept aside at Division 2 outfit Banbury Twenty by five wickets.

The visitors’ decision to bat first failed to pay off as they limped to 137 all out, Aqib Ashar showing some early season form by taking 3-15.

David Clark then smashed 54 not out and John Wright 31 as Twenty rattled along to 141-5.

Shipton-under-Wychwood eased past Cropredy by five wickets to become one of only three sides from the top flight through to the last eight.

Jon Hartley took 4-42 and Craig Wood 3-21 as Cropredy were bowled out for 175, Tim Vickers top-scoring with 34.

Simon Hole then hit a fine 67 not out and Charlie Brain 32 as the home side cruised to 176-5 in 32 overs.

Opener Tim Rattigan hit 43 and No 3 Simon Wood scored 51, but all the other Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts batsmen struggled to make runs quickly against Leighton Buzzard Town, who won by six wickets.

Nondies’ final total of 151-6 never looked like being enough once they spilled a couple of catches early in Town’s reply, and the visitors reached 152-4 just in time as rain closed in.

Mark Roberts took 3-19 to help dismiss Bledlow Village for 100, which Division 1 side Bletchley Town passed for the loss of four wickets.

Bourton Vale were given a walkover against Hanborough, as were Long Marston by Great Brickhill.

Quarter-final draw
