Oxford United boss Chris Wilder says the club’s amazing supporters can make the difference today.

The U’s go into this afternoon’s play-off semi-final, second leg against Rushden at the Kassam Stadium level at 1-1 just 90 minutes from Wembley.

There is sure to be a tremendous atmosphere at the match, and the Oxford fans will play a big part if they can recreate the noise they produced in Thursday’s first leg.

“It doesn’t half help the players,” Wilder said.

“We get a lot of energy off our supporters – they were unbelievable on Thursday night and they can make the difference.

“We want it to be intimidating. Not ugly and nasty, we want them to make as much noise as they can and get right behind the team and give them the lift that they gave us in the first match.

“Then I thought the players focused on the job in hand, started right on the front foot and the fans got right behind them.”

Top scorer James Constable, whose goal helped United return home with a slight psychological advantage, said: “The noise they make gives us a massive lift.

“It was one of the reasons we came strong in the last 20-25 minutes at Nene Park. That was down to the fans and it felt like a home game.

“Their support has been fantastic and will be massive on Monday.”

Wilder has everyone fit who was involved on Thursday fit for the second leg and he is expected to keep to much the same side.

The one change he might be considering is whether to have Alfie Potter as his right-sided attacker, or stick with Matt Green.

And Lewis Chalmers may be a consideration for one of the five places on the subs’ bench.

With away goals not counting, if the match is level at 90 minutes there will be extra time and, if necesary, a penalty shoot-out.
