Craig Haupt, who was unluckily dismissed for 99, and young spinners Jimmy Phillips and Luke Ryan were Banbury's stars as they had the better of their draw away to Home Counties League Divvision 1 champions High Wycombe.

Haupt dominated Wycombe's bowlers on a dry pitch that favoured the spinners.

The big left-hander hammered 12 fours and one six, and had received only 125 balls when he was trapped leg before by spinner Chris Sketchley.

That made Banbury 156-4, but Ian Hawtin made sure his innings was not wasted with a stylish 42, which helped the visitors to reach 219 all out in 65 overs.

While practising before the match, Banbury seamer Paul Robbins injured his back, which led to former England bowler Paul Taylor being called up from the 2nd XI game at the last minute.

In the event, Taylor bowled only five overs at the end of the innings.

Wycombe were going well at 125-3 after 41 overs, but in an attempt to accelerate the scoring lost several quick wickets.

Off-spinner Phillips finished with 3-67, while promising left-armer Ryan took 4-67 as Wycombe struggled to 153-8 by the close.
