Oxford Stadium saw its biggest gamble of the year after Brave Propect landed his heat of the Half-Grand 450 on Tues- day.

Carol Ford's Poole runner opened at 3-1 and was quickly laid £1,500 to £500, before going down to 5-2, 9-4, 7-4, 5-4 and eventually going off at evens favourite.

It certainly burned a hole in the bookies satchels on the rails!

And things didn't get any better as Nick Colton's Silkmore Dolla looked to have the Cowley Puppy open in his pocket before stopping abruptly just before the line, allowing the 11-10 favourite Baran Hawaii to prevail.

The first running of the Half-Grand series finals, an event which is proving popular with open race trainers, saw Big Archie take full advantage of the absence of hot ante-post favourite Grayfox Chip to give trainer Tommy Foster a double on the night.
