Home advantage counted for nothing as Radley's men finished last in the latest round of the Southern League Division 3 West at Tilsley Park.

In a hard-fought match, Radley led the way for most of the meeting. But were hit with four injuries in the latter stages as their challenge faltered.

However, it was a close finish, with only 17.5 points separating the four teams.

There were plenty of positives for Radley, who re- corded 15 first places.

Ben Owen showed a return to form as he won the 100m in 11.0secs, while Dan Griffiths clocked 54.5secs to win the 400m.

Tom Lewis was first in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 1min 09.8secs, but most of Radley's success came in the field.

Lewis cleared 1.70m to win the high jump, while clubmate Steve Wren leapt 6.24m to finish first in the long jump.

Lewis saved his best performance for the triple jump, where he smashed the under 20 club record to finish second with 11.86m.

Jim House grabbed a double, winning the shot with 11.83m and the javelin with 40.43, while Chris Franks also picked up two victories, throwing 31.89m in the discus and 36.51m in the hammer.

It was a good day for Radley in the throwing events.

Alex Ahmet performing well in the B string events to help the team to 38 points out of a possible 40.

*Oxford City had to settle for third place in their Division 3 West meeting at Southampton.

Once again lack of availability and conflicting competitions saw City competing with the bare minimum of athletes.

However, it was not all doom and gloom.

Phil Castle, Ian Castle and Antony Palman-Brown all returned. And between Phil Castle and Palman-Brown, they completed in 14 events.

The star of the show was Gareth Davies, who recorded an excellent 6.12m in the long jump.

City suffered bad luck when Mark Beerling picked up an injury in winning the 5,000m, which ruled him out for the rest of the day.
