Former Oxford riders ruled the roost in the Swedish Grand Prix taking four of the first five places.

All ex-No 1's at the Cowley circuit, they were led in brilliant style by winner Jason Crump, who posted his second success of the series.

Greg Hancock, Oxford's skipper last year, was in devastating form, winning his first six races before bowing to the craft and guile of Crump in the final.

Nicki Pedersen finished fourth behind Tomasz Gollob, with Leigh Adams in fifth.

"Jason seems to save his best for the last race," admitted Hancock afterwards, but he was still delighted with another outstanding performance.

"I think I am riding better than for a long time, and there is still a long way to go."

Crump dropped two points in the qualifying heats and had choice of gates in his semi, but he could not find a way past Pedersen.

In the final, however, the battling Pedersen, winner of the first Grand Prix this year in Slovenia, had to be content with fourth place.

Defending world champion Tony Rickardsson again looked a pale shadow of his former self, though he did experience mechanical failures, while England's Scott Nicholls and Lee Richardson again had bitterly disappointing nights.
