BURNTWOOD Barbarians stunned Oxford Cavaliers with a second-half fightback to record a 48-16 victory in the TotalRL.com Conference West Midlands Division.

Cavs were unable to play their slick passing game in the boggy conditions, but still led 16-14 at the break.

However, Burntwood piled on the points after this as Oxford suffered injuries to Phil Fisher, John Madley and Sean Conway.

Cavs started well with the inspirational Greg Cushing continually threatening the Burntwood defence and strong running from props Chris Blackstone and Jim Carter leading the line.

Barbarians bagged a converted try to lead 6-0, but Adam White showed typical flair to cross over for the visitors.

Cavs grew in strength, finding more room in the centre of the field, and hooker Guy Elliott marked his return with a try from a well-worked team move.

Elliott converted this himself and a second try from Madley, while two further Burntwood scores completed the first half.

Cavs ran out of substitutes as Burntwood notched 34 unanswered points.

Coach Matt Walsh said: "That was a hard fought game and Burntwood are a very good team.

"We will have to improve though, if we are to continue to compete."
