Karl Bushell was taken to a deciding set before winning the men's singles title in the Oxford & District Invitation Tournament at the Forum, Kidlington.

His opponent in the final, Andy Misseldine, was in blistering form as he won the opening game.

Bushell trailed in the second, but dragged himself back into contention to take a 2-1 lead.

During the fourth game, the loops and smashes were still coming from Misseldine, who levelled the match and started well in the decider.

As the score made its way to 8-8, it seemed that an upset could be on the cards.

But Bushell found something extra and won a thriller 11-8.

After a short break, Bushell then went head-to-head with Nigel Taylor in the final of veterans' singles.

With Bushell still looking jaded from the Misseldine epic, and Taylor playing some inspired table tennis, spectators were were treated to a fascinating match.

This time Taylor took Bushell to 9-9 in the deciding game before going down 11-9.

Earlier, Bushell teamed up with Taylor to win the doubles competition.

Dawn Pearce was the top lady for the second year in succession, with Anne Borrowdale the runner-up.
