THE English Golf Union have given their backing to The Oxfordshire's 2011 Solheim Cup bid.
The course, near Thame, hopes to host the 'women's Ryder Cup' in five years time and owners the Leaderboard Group are drumming up support for their campaign.
EGU chief executive Peter Baxter said: "The English Golf Union are delighted to support the bid to stage the 2011 Solheim Cup match at The Oxfordshire Golf Club.
"As the third largest golfing nation, I am positive that holding an international match play event such as the Solheim Cup at The Oxfordshire will generate considerable support from the golfing public."
If successful, The Oxfordshire would become the first English course to host the Solheim Cup.
The deadline for bids is May 26 and the Oxford Mail is giving its full backing to The Oxfordshire's efforts.
