OXFORD Harlequins are set to ground-share with Oxford RFC to boost their chances of reaching the National League.

The clubs plan for Quins to move their first team games from Horspath Road to Oxford's Hinskey ground while their mini and junior sections remain at Marston Ferry Road.

Quins' council-owned Horspath Road facilities are well below National League standard whereas Oxford can offer them an enclosed pitch and floodlights.

A combined junior/colts academy would also be created to develop talent and nurture future senior players for both clubs.

They hope the plans will help them achive their potential, but stress they will retain separate identities.

Oxford chairman Julian Perry said: "We are delighted to join with Harlequins in these discussions and believe both clubs can only benefit from a better use of facilities and resources."

Quins chairman Kevin Johnson said: "The extra ambition and impetus resulting from this link will help us both attract and retain players capable of driving both sides to promotion to higher leagues.

"This, in turn, should attract more support and involvement in rugby from the wider community in Oxford."

Discussions on the ground-share and youth academy should be completed before the start of the new season in September.

*OXFORD Harlequins' AGM takes place at 7.30pm tomorrow at their Horspath Road clubhouse.
