A low-scoring Home Counties League Division 1 derby clash between Banbury and Oxford was intriguingly poised when heavy rain caused an abandonment on Saturday.

Hosts Banbury held the edge, with Oxford struggling at 82-6 in search of their victory target of 154.

Banbury could claim they were denied by the weather in a match dominated by the bowlers on a wet pitch.

Indeed, the state of the pitch led to a delayed start and a match reduced from 110 to 103 overs.

After winning the toss and inserting their opponents, Oxford bowled and fielded well.

However, they missed a chance early on off Craig Haupt, who went on to dominate Banbury's total of 153.

The big left-hander made 72 in his 151-minute stay at the crease an excellent innings in the trickiest of conditions. His best support came from opener Eddie Phillips with 30.

All the Oxford bowlers performed well as they bowled out their opponents in the 57th and last over.

A lively opening spell from Simon Launder reduced Oxford to 15-2 after three overs.

Only Adam Cook, who made a bright and breezy 32 and Joe Porter (22 no) showed the technique to play against some good bowling.

Eventually, they came off the field as cars were arriving with their headlights on, just before the heavens opened with Oxford on 82-6 off 25.1 overs.

A brilliant 126 from Todd Ferguson gave Henley a three-wicket win over newly-promoted Division 1 side Tring Park.

Adam Pusey made 118 not out for Tring, who scored 225-9 from their 60 overs.

But Ferguson, with good support from Dave Allaway (55) saw Henley home with four overs to spare.
