Oxford Hawks finished their Women's South Clubs Leagu season with a 2-1 defeat at home to Hampstead & Westminster, but with promotion already in the bag, there was still plenty to celebrate.
Victory for Hawks, and defeat for leaders Southgate would have earned the Oxford club the Division 2 title, but Southgate's victory over Basingstoke means they finished champions.
The London visitors took the lead in the first half with a freak goal. A harmless-looking through ball rebounded off the upright straight into the path of their centre forward who finished easily.
Hawks responded well with a series of attacks of their own, earning numerous short corners, but they failed to convert any of them before half-time.
After the break they got back on level terms when Lisa Jones found Wendy Gundry and her pinpoint pass was clinically driven first-time into the net by Emma Batten, who has finished as leading goalscorer in the division.
Hawks had other chances, but it was Hampstead who had the last word when they struck with a well-worked deflected free-hit two minutes from time.
