Ben Kaluza added to his list of honours by claiming the Home Counties class 5 ABA junior title at Regal Night Club in Cowley.

The Oxford Boxing Academy light-welterweight avenged a previous defeat as he confidently outpointed Sandy Lane rival Ermal Mustapha.

Kaluza, 16, showed more accuracy and variety in his work than his taller opponent with strategic right hands landed to both head and body.

Mustapha tried to cut the deficit, but could not find enough gaps in the Oxfordshire teenager’s guard.

Kaluza is joined in the next stage of the title trail by Berinsfield’s Richard Tyler, who had a walkover in the class 6 welterweight (67 kg) division. There were contrasting fortunes for the Hill family from the Blackbird Leys gym in their championship bouts.

Elder brother Jack was crowned Home Counties senior light middleweight champion after getting the nod over Bedford’s Johnny Callender on a split verdict.

A succession of straight rights off the jab edged him ahead during the opening session.

Callender made a vain attempt to claw back the deficit in the final session as both men tired, but Hill prevailed.

There was disappointment for Jack’s younger brother, Les, in the class 5 featherweight final.

The Cowley southpaw landed some neat right hands on the counter to make his mark in the first two rounds.

But he lacked the accuracy of his rival in the final session – enough to swing the verdict for Apex ABC opponent Charlie Flynn.
