Berinsfield ace Jordan Flynn’s bid for a second successive national schoolboy crown ended in disappointment after he was outpointed by Sahir Iqbal.

Flynn failed to get into his stride quickly enough in this Class 2 (under 14 years) 46 kg final at Brentwood Leisure Centre and allowed his Bury ABC rival to set the pace.

Iqbal’s greater accuracy with the right hand saw him clinch the opening period and left his Oxfordshire opponent chasing the fight.

Flynn’s accuracy and precision improved as the bout progressed, but it was not enough to erode the early deficit.

He never stopped trying, but his determined late rally proved to be in vain.

Berinsfield coach Mel Corrigan had no complaints about the outcome.

He said: “We were beaten by the better boxer on the day and he deserved to get the verdict.

“Sahir was disappointed at losing in the final 12 months ago and now it is our turn.

“Jordan is naturally upset – more so for his family and friends than for himself – but he should not allow that to cast a shadow over his achievements in boxing.

“Getting to the final once in this competition is a terrific accomplishment – doing it twice in successive seasons takes remarkable dedication.

“He had already beaten another previous champion in the semi final and has boxed for England.

“Jordan knows he has the potential to win another title and he can set his sights on that next season.”
