I reckon that’s just about it for this season as far as river fishing is concerned, with yet more rain continuing to scupper our best efforts to get onto the bank, writes Andy Webber.

Last Sunday, the Environment Agency put another Flood Watch on the Thames, and with more rain forecast, I have put my gear away.

There may just be a small window of opportunity as we lead up to the closing date on rivers of March 14, but for many, it will be a case of having to wait for a new season on June 16.

Once we get a bit of settled weather, I shall be going down to the lakes at Marsh Farm to try for some crucian carp.

l IN last week’s column, I appealed for information about the lakes behind Elmthorpe Road in Wolvercote, and a lady kindly phoned me on Saturday.

She informed me that the Oxford Preservation Trust owns the lake and land, and that they are not open to the public.

I had a look on the Oxford Preservation Trust website and discovered the land was left to the trust by a Mr Kirk.

It is a shame the lakes are not available to the public, as I expect many a young angler did his groundwork at Wolvercote over the years.

l THE adverse weather condition have not put the fish off at Lechlade Trout Fishery.

A total 381 anglers caught 980 fish in February, of which 548 were doubles.

Biggest, at just under 15lb, went to Scott Dundass, who travelled down from Glasgow.

Bob Buckby, from Nuneaton, had a fish just one ounce lighter.

Only 262 anglers visited Bushyleaze lake, but they caught more than 1,000 fish, with an average size of 3lb-plus and specimens up to 7lb.
