Oxford Harlequins director of rugby John Brodley said he was not surprised by their dramatic win over Chinnor.

He said: “It shows a lot about their character, but we would prefer it wasn’t so tight.

“It also shows a lot about their ambition and skill level.

“I always felt if we got enough ball, then mentally we had the upper hand. Our problem was winning he ball.

“Their backs have got great ability, but they never released them.

“We played with so much confidence and ambition. I think rugby won rather than dull rugby, which we are all grateful for.

“Chinnor had a far stronger scrummage than us, which cost us two tries. They were dominating that area.

“But in guys like Nutt and Andre we had people who can break a game open.”

Chinnor head coach Jason Bowers said: “We are very disappointed. I thought the forwards had 100 per cent domination of the game.

“Losing Stoop as early as we did and reorganising the midfield caused us some problems.

“Having said that, we were in a position where we were expected to go and win it.

“Fair play to Quins for having no ball and still looking dangerous on the counter-attack. Andre was a good player and very hard to stop.

“I don’t feel they were much the better side. I’m just very disappointed to lose in the way we did.

“The difference between the teams was their two wingers.

“I could see the referee was wanting to give a penalty near the end because we were trying to kill the game.”
