MATT Green admits he’s enjoying a far more successful season than he did last year with Torquay – because the goals keep coming.

Although the 23-year-old striker conceded that Saturday’s FA Trophy defeat was disappointing, he is sure Oxford will get over it – and move on.

And for him, a rich vein of form is continuing.

His goal, which brought the scores level before Rob Matthews struck the winner, was his sixth in eight games, and his 11th of the season.

He said: “I think it was just five goals last year so I’ve doubled that now and it’s turned into a lot more successful season.

“The goals are racking up. I’m just happy to be playing.”

His goal came after a mix-up between Kidderminster keeper Ross Atkins and his defender Martin Riley.

“It’s happened to me a few times,” he said. “I think I’ve just given the defender a little shove and he’s gone into the goalkeeper, and the ball’s dropped for me.

“I’m not really known for being a poacher, but in front of goal things are happening for me at the moment, which is a nice situation to be in.”

Green revealed United’s coaching staff were getting the players in yesterday to concentrate fully on tomorrow’s home game against AFC Wimbledon.

“We’ll go into training and I’m sure the gaffer will impress on us that the league is all we’ve got to worry about now,” he said.

“The hammer’s going to be kept down.

“The boys are going to be positive and we’re going to go into the game on Tuesday night hoping to get the three points and bounce back.”
