With the Thame still pushing through, Cuddesdon Mill VAA switched their Pairs Knockout Cup from Cuddesdon to Chistlehampton, where the ten anglers still struggled, with only the odd chub being caught.

The winning pair were Vernon Adams and Phil Almond, both catching a chub each on legered bread for a combined 6.15.0.

Runners-up were Geoff Ring and Dave Bloomer, who had a chub weighing 4.4.0 which also fell to bread.

The Thames was hammering through at the Lower Moors, so Sutton Courtenay moved their Markertow Shield second leg to Culham Cut.

It proved to be hard work as out of the seven anglers, there were four blanks.

Steve Wheatley was the clear winner, netting two good perch for 6.0.0 on the pole with worm over chop.

Bob Gosbee fished the waggler with maggot to take runners-up spot with a chub of 3.10.0, followed by John Percival with a 1.11.0 perch caught on the pole with worm on the hook over chop.

The five members of Oxford Bus AC were surprised that the backwater at the ‘School’ was almost back to normal levels last Sunday, although the Cherwell was still pushing through.

The only angler to catch was Anthony Tompkins, who decided to fish the main river and weighed in two chub and two roach for a winning 5.6.0. He fished hard up against the far wall, catching the roach on worm and the chub on legered cheesepaste.

There was a good turn-out of 16 for the North Oxford match fished on the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge.

Although it was still pretty cold, the water seemed to be clearing.

Pegged right upstream on the ‘wires’, Bill Bryant weighed in a decent perch, plus some smaller ones, on chopped worm for a winning 3.4.8.

Roger Bateman was second with 2.9.0 comprising a chub on chop and two tiny little fish that didn’t even register on the scales.

Alan Bateman used bloodworm over joker and had a perch of 1.8.0, plus some small roach and perch, for 2.3.0.

Five members fished Benson’s fourth Rosebowl on the Thames at Benson, Ian Fisher using his favourite method of liquidised bread, cage feeder and flake to take three chublets for a winning 2.10.0.

Dave Head also used bread and caught a chublet of 0.10.0 for second.

Kidlington AS had a good turn-out of 12 for their Harry Parsons Cup on the canal at New Bridge.

Fishing the pole with punch straight down the middle, Ron Hillier triumphed with 37 small roach for 1.14.8.

Not far behind, Dave Scott-Picton used punch to catch some roach and then switched to chop for a few perch, finishing second with 1.13.0, while Phil Blackman weighed in 1.11.8 of roach on pole and punch for third.

Points after 15 matches: J Bean 110, H Clarke 100, A Middleton 94, G Cuss 75.

Kidlington also took on Masons in the same match and it was Masons’ Andy Benwell (Predator) who won with a net of skimmers and roach on chopped worm, weighing in 4.1.8.

In second place was Gary Pether with 3.2.0 of skimmers and perch alternating between between punch and worm, pipping Chris Webb by just an ounce. Chris netted roach, perch and ruffe.

Bill Gray won Masons’ Individual Knockout Cup, beating Steve Philips in the final.
