Berinsfield's 2009 National Schoolboy champion Jordan Flynn moved a step closer to a second successive title after stopping Joe McNulty in the third round of their quarter-final at Sittingbourne.

After edging the opening session, he allowed his Ports-mouth rival to claw his way back into contention during the following period.

Flynn needed to up his workrate and he duly obliged after the interval.

A right hand rocked McNulty then a left hook dumped him on the canvas.

The Pompey teenager rose to his feet, but he was quickly exposed to a six-punch cluster that heralded a second count and the end of this Class 2 (under 14 years) 46kg battle.

But there was disappointment for Liam Joseph – Berinsfield’s other contender – in the Class 3 (under 15 years) 54kg division.

He was unable to get into his stride against Bristol southpaw Jack Bennett and had no arguments with the verdict.

Oxford Boxing Academy’s Bradley Townsend’s Class 3 52kg clash with Louis Murphy of Woking proved to be highly controversial.

Townsend missed out after picking a highly debatable public warning after his Surrey rival appeared to be the worst offender.

There was mixed fortunes for the two Berinsfield boxers in action on home canvas as the club staged the opening round of this year’s Clubs for Young People championships.

Josh Lock provided a defining victory for the home supporters as he made full use of his extra inches against Cheshunt’s Brian McDonagh.

Lock imposed a standing count with a solid right hand during the first session on his way to a unanimous verdict in this Class A (15 year-old) 60kg (lightweight) encounter.

But despite a sustained rally in the second half of the bout, Will Healy missed out by a narrow margin following his Class A 52kg clash with Heart of Portsmouth’s Kieran Rodden.
