ALCHESTER knocked holders Abingdon out of the Oxfordshire Shield with a 40-3 preliminary round victory.
The Bicester-based club will now meet Harwell in the quarter-finals after their comprehensive win under lights at Banbury’s Bodicote Park.
Abingdon spent the first 15 minutes in Alchester’s half and took the lead with a penalty after Niall Morrow was sin-binned.
Alchester slowly found their rhythm and scored their opening try when Adam Thompson sent wing Steve Millar in under the posts, Tom Miles converting.
No 8 Joe McAneaney’s break set up the platform for try No 2, which Miles scored and converted.
In the second half, Thompson crashed over from a driving maul and then converted a try from replacement centre Jack Briggs.
Prop Sean Cooke and McAneaney completed Alchester’s try haul, with Thompson converting both.
