Oxford City boss Mike Ford says his side needs to be more ruthless in front of goal – or risk missing a top-five finish.

City have lost only once in their last six Premier Division matches, including a draw against leaders Farnborough and Ford wants to start turning their draws into wins starting with Saturday’s trip to Chippenham Town.

“Although we have lost only once in six matches, four of those have been draws, so we need to start turning them into wins,” said Ford, who is without Jamie Brooks (hip) and Richard Knight (thigh).

“The lads were disappointed we didn’t beat Farnborough.

“When we play well we can be a match for anyone in this league. But we miss opportunites.

“If we are going to finish in the top five we have to convert our chances and be a bit more ruthless.

“My one slight concern is that we don’t have enough goalscorers in the team.

“We can’t just rely on Lee Steele (he has scored 15 in all competitions) to get our goals – I need more players to contribute to the goals-for column.”

“Mark Janes has been a revelation, but he doesn’t get enough goals and with Mark Bell coming back, who is a regular scorer, I am hoping that pressure may inspire him to get more.”

Didcot Town manager Stuart Peace has challenged his team to get back-to-back wins and boost their climb away from the relegation zone.

Town made it four games unbeaten with victory at Evesham on Saturday and Peace wants more of the same against visitors Tiverton, who are a place above them in 17th.

Peace said: “I watched them against Swindon Supermarine and if we play well they are beatable.”

Didcot will be without Matty Jack, while Josh Dutton-Black (ankle) faces a fitness test.

Abingdon United’s assistant manager Darren Edwards says his side face a test of their three-match unbeaten run when they host Hayes in Division 1 South & West.

Edwards said: “We are confident, but Hayes are on a good run, so it will be tough.”

Justin Merritt is unavailable while Julian McCalmon (ankle) has a late test.

North Leigh face a trip to Gosport Borough.
