Chinnor head coach Jason Bowers is warning his side face a real test at home to basement boys Maidenhead in National 3 South West on Saturday.

Maidenhead may be bottom of the league, but finally secured their first win last week – a 23-21 home victory over Chippenham.

And Bowers believes they will be hungry for more success.

He said: “It is our first home game since December 19 and we are expecting an absolute humdinger.

“They are on a high, and with us losing last week and the expectation of playing the side that has had the least success, it is building up to be a cracking game.

“It is a local derby and hopefully we’ll have a big crowd and a really good atmosphere.”

Back-row forward Tom Mowbray and wing Pip Seymour return to the squad, but lock Sam Black is unavailable.

As for last week’s 12-10 defeat at Weston-super-Mare, Bowers added: “We didn’t play that badly and made a lot of good decisions, but we lacked a little bit of luck and precision “That may have been down to ring rustiness or a well-organised defence.

“There were still lots of positives to take out of the game.”

Lock Andy Boyle and full back Graham Crapper are back in the Oxford Harlequins squad for their trip to Cleve.

Boyle returns from a ski-ing holiday in place of Adam Pearson (teaching commitments), while Crapper impressed for the seconds last week.

Wing Grant Ricker is out with an ankle injury, but Abingdon School teacher, flanker, Ed Davies could make his first appearance of the season.

Quins beat Exmouth 17-10 last week after snatching victory with the final play.

“We exerted a lot of presure in the second half,” said director of rugby John Brodley.

“I think it was the right result in the end.

“Mentally, we are tough and that will stand us in good stead.

“We are third outright and have a great chance of staying there.”

Meanwhile, Quins will play their Oxfordshire Cup preliminary round tie at Grove on Sunday, February 14.

Lock Dave Clements and utility back Jack Shaylor come into consideration for Henley Hawks’ home game with Lydney in National 2 South.

Both appeared for Henley 2nd in last week’s 20-15 defeat to Chinnor 2nd in the Rugby Tech Shield.

Centre Ali James is available, but hooker Andy Dalgleish, another ex-Oxford Blue is out injured.
