Oxford United’s top scorer James Constable is fired up to go on another goal-scoring run after ending his brief barren spell.

The centre forward got his first goal in five games – and his first since December 8 – with the third in United’s resounding 4-0 victory at Grays.

It was 19th of the campaign for ‘Beano’, and he is well on course to better last season’s tally of 24.

He said: “They haven’t been going in lately. It’s always nice to get a goal after a few games without one, and hopefully we can go on another run now.

“It was quite a tight angle and I don’t really know what part of my body it went in off, but it was just nice to see it go in and hopefully I can get a few more now.

“It was massively important after the last few results to come up with a good performance and it was important to get back to winning ways, which we did.”

An interesting poser for manager Chris Wilder is whether to play his strongest possible side, including Constable, in Saturday’s FA Trophy tie at Chelmsford.

Alternatively, he could rest key men and give a few of his other squad members an outing, which would help their match fitness and sharpness.

But there is plenty of money at stake in the FA Trophy. Oxford have already pocketed £11,000 from their run this season, and they will earn a further £7,000 if they can come through against Blue Square South side Chelmsford.
