Oxford City’s former Wycombe striker Andy Baird has decided to leave Court Place Farm because of work commitments.

The 30-year-old frontman, has been at the Premier Division since signing from rivals Banbury United in 2008, but is taking more of a hands-on role with his company, so he has decided to leave.

“He’s a warrior,” said City boss Mike Ford.

“He brings that aggressiveness to our defence. He doesn’t get fazed by anything and has been brilliant.

Baird started his career at Easington Sports before joining Wycombe for whom he made his debut in April 1998.

A year later, he turned professional and established himself in the first team before a succession of injuries saw him released in 2002.

While at the Chairboys, he took part in their FA Cup run of 2001, before a cruciate knee injury saw him miss the semi-final against Liverpool.

On leaving the Chairboys he joined Brackley Town, before signing for Banbury in 2005 .

Should Saturday's game at Halesowen be called off due to the big freeze, his last appearance will be as sub at home to Banbury next Saturday.

Ford added: “He came here as a striker, but as time went on he became more valuable at the back.

“I think he got fed up with people kicking lumps out of him, so he moved back into defence to do it to other people!

“Because of the cruciate injury we will never know how far he would have gone as a professional, but he was a terrific non-league player.

“It’s a really disappointing loss for us, but it gives James Clarke and Andy Gunn the chance to establish themselves.

“James has all the assets to be a good centre half.

“Andy is performing as well as he has ever done. They can form a good partnership.”

On-loan keeper Will Puddy plays his last game before returning to Cheltenham.

Darren Pond (knee), Mark Bell (thigh) and Jamie Brooks (groin) are doubtful.

Didcot Town manager Stuart Peace has warned his players to keep up their fitness or face the axe for their home clash with Truro City.

Peace said: “We have done our best to get training on, but if we can’t, I expect the players to stay fit. If they don’t then they won’t get in the team.”

A pitch inspection is scheduled for lunchtime today.

Alex Stanley is suspended, while Matty Jack is still out.

North Leigh keeper Adam Lonsdale stands by to make his debut at Bracknell Town.

No 1 Sam Warrell is serving a 35-day ban for being sent off in a Sunday League game.

A lunchtime pitch inspection will be held today.
