Kennington reached the three’s competition final in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League with a 5-1 victory over Democrats at Berinsfield, writes PETE EWINS.

Pauline Withey started the ball rolling with a 4,950-2,610 win over Bob Parsons.

Mark Trafford (11,410, break 7,000), Ian Gordon (5,100-2,030) and Withey again (3,980-3,510) made it 4-0.

Trafford brushed aside Billy Hill (10,690-4,880), before Terry Green (5,620-2,240) salvaged some pride for Democrats.

In the Pairs Cup, Pete Ewins and Mike Jones had fortune on their side as they knocked out Terry Coleman and Les West in an all-Vikings affair.

West lost a break of 6,000 which let in Ewins and Jones to triumph 16,010-13,530 on aggregate after the tie finished 2-2.

Masons’ Alan Lowe and Dave Rose beat Dave Gordon and Graham Mildenhall 3-1 at Cowley Workers.

Vikings’ Alan Oliver and Ian Moss squeezed past Cowley Workers’ Sean Stratford and Dave Bartlett 14,210-12,730 on aggregate at the Democrats after their match finished 2-2.

Lewis Stratford defeated Mick Murphy 2-0 in the Pat Webber Cup on the Masons top.

Gladiators Phil Clark beat Jenny Florey 4,480-2,880 on aggregate in the Off the Spot competition at Kennington.

In the league, Gladiators A took full advantage of their outstanding fixture by winning 4-1 at Dolphin to top Section 2 by two points.

Bob Pincombe (2,550-1,810), Dave Jarman (3,460-350) and Frank Cox (3,020-2,220) won the first three games.

Mel Stanbridge (6,510-2,350) pulled one back, before Keith Gardner sealed Gladiators’ victory.
