ALAN Green scored an impressive hat-trick as Oxford City Stars thumped Milton Keynes Thunder 8-3 in Division 1 South of the English National League.

Despite the scoreline, the first period was a tight affair.

Although Stars had the better of the play, they were hampered by the lost of captain Darren Elliott, who retaliated to some intense provocation from Thunder’s Michael Knights, and sat out most of the period in the penalty box.

Andrew Shurmer fired Stars in front in the 17th minute, and within 60 seconds, Dean Francis had doubled the lead.

The home side hit back before the end of the period when they broke at speed and Jamie Holland slotted home.

Green grabbed the first of his treble in the second period courtesy of a powerplay goal assisted by Juraj Rusic and Richard Wojciak.

The highlight came two minutes later when Wojciak took the puck past several players including Thunder netminder Mark Woolfe to score a fine solo goal and make it 4-1.

In the third period, Stars ran away with it, extending their lead when the puck was slammed home by Nick Oliver.

Green scored his second on a powerplay, before Shannon Taylor and Green again made it 8-1.

With the game safe, Thunder hit back with a couple of late goals, the first by Connor Goode and a second from Holland.
