Mick Channon has paid tribute to former trainer Bill Wightman, who died on Monday aged 95.
Wightman, who trained Halloween to win two King George VI Chases, also enjoyed success from his Upham base, near Southampton, with St Leger runner-up Kingsfold, Oscar Wilde, Runnymede, Somersway, Flying Nelly, Solar, Metair, Import and Air Trooper.
He also saddled Cathy Jane, the first winner owned by Channon, who is now based at West Ilsley.
Channon said: βHe was an absolute legend and very much my hero. I'm very proud to have had the unique honour of training his horses after he trained my first horse nearly 40 years ago.β
