Rover Oxford and Oxford Hawks both lost at home in Division 1 of the Women’s South Clubs’ League.

Despite a run of defeats, and the fact that they are propping up the table, Rover have kept plugging away, and they felt unlucky at losing 2-0 to Havant at Iffley Road in the last round of fixtures before Christmas.

Havant struck from a short corner in the first half.

But Rover were not deflated and they responded with good passing and enthusiastic forwards Sam Sandham, Hayley Sawyer and Bex Strange frequently testing Havant’s defence, without the reward of a goal.

Havant broke quickly to score a second, leaving Rover again to rue not taking their chances.

Despite a goal from Marie Warwick, Oxford Hawks went down 4-1 to table-topping Surbiton.

City of Oxford won 3-2 at leaders Banbury to leapfrog them in Division 3A. City went two up through a Kirsty Brammer brace from open play.

Ann Glover pulled one back for Banbury but Anna Nicholson deflected in a short corner to make it 3-1.

Banbury’s Mel Wilkinson, fresh from her selection for England U16s, then scrambled home a short corner with the final touch of the game.

West Witney were disappointed to go down 3-2 at Teddington 2nd, who took advantage of their short corners to go two up in the first 20 minutes.

Witney battled hard to bring it back to 2-2 before half-time with great goals from Joy Mangazi and Sadie Lapper. However, Teddington scored their only chance of the second half to take all three points.

Bottom club Hawks 2nd lost 2-0 at Staines 2nd 2-0, while in Division 2, Oxford University lost 2-0 at Henley.

CITY won 3-0 at Leighton Buzzard in the second round of the EH Trophy. Lucy Carp, Rachel Stokes and Chloe Guyatt got the goals.
