Oxford Harlequins climbed back to third in the National 3 South West table after a comprehensive 42-22 victory at Reading.

Quins scored six converted tries, fly half Jeff Stewart on target each time, in a match which also featured four yellow cards.

Lock Morgan Cross burst clear to score Quins’ first try on ten minutes.

Reading levelled seven minutes later when fly half Tom Goodhew converted a try from lock Rob Taylor.

Stewart notched Quins’ second try himself after looping around centre Anthony Cope.

Reading centre Andy Evans was sin-binned just after this, but Goodhew reduced the arrears with a penalty.

Flanker Tim Knapp was next on the scoresheet for Quins after centre Dom Maley’s 40-metre break.

It was 21-10 at the break and Quins went further ahead with a penalty try after wing Martin Nutt’s long run. Reading wing Duncan Mollinson was immediately yellow-carded for the foul, but Goodhew converted a second try from Taylor.

Five minutes later, Reading flanker Dan Philips was sin-binned and Quins’ No 8 Jason Welburn soon joined him.

On 71 minutes, Stewart’s well-judged cross-kick allowed lock Andy Boyle catch and amble over.

Full back Graham Crapper set up Maley for try No 6 after a 40-metre run and sidestep.

Reading prop Andy Grierson scored with the last move of the match, Goodhew converting.

Chinnor suffered a shock 20-14 defeat at lowly Exmouth.

Exmouth fly half Shaun Fayter broke the deadlock with a 31st-minute penalty, but Chinnor hit back immediately with a try from wing Alex Wallace.

An eventful spell saw Exmouth’s Ben Boswell and replacement Stuart Lowe yellow-carded, with Fayter slotting a penalty.

But an earlier three-pointer from fly half James Cathcart put Chinnor 8-6 up at the break.

Exmouth retook the lead with a penalty try, converted by Fayter.

Two more Cathcart penalties made it 14-13 to the visitors, but centre Tom Eliott’s try on 70 minutes, converted by Fayter, secured Exmouth’s win.
