Cambridge C 4 (Nightingale 2, Burke 20, 61, Fuller 30)

Didcot Tn 1 (John 79)

Didcot fell to their heaviest defeat of the Premier Division campaign away to title-challenging Cambridge City on Saturday.

The result never looked in doubt after unbeaten City had raced into a three-goal lead within 30 minutes.

Didcot deserve credit for steadying the ship, but the damage had been done.

There was less than two minutes on the clock when Robbie Nightingale struck home from the edge of the box, following good work from striker Neil Midgley.

Didcot had opportunities to level with both Michael Bartley and Mark Draycott coming close, but it was Cambridge who grabbed a vital second goal on 20 minutes.

The visitors reacted slowly to a long-throw-in and winger Tony Burke beat two players before firing a brilliant shot past keeper Matt Trott.

It was not the last spectacular goal of the game as Ashley Fuller thumped home another stunner to make it 3-0.

Burke capped a man-of-the-match display with his second and Cambridge’s fourth when firing low past Trott on the hour-mark.

Didcot restored some re-spectability to the scoreline in the closing stages.

Draycott saw his 75th minute penalty saved by Cambridge keeper Zac Barrett.

But Barrett spoiled an otherwise faultless display by leting Philip John’s long-range effort through his grasp.

Didcot: Trott, Hector (Castello 66), Heapy, Mortimer-Jones, Brown (Hopkins 56), Stanley, John, Alexis, Bartley, Draycott, Williams (Tabor 56).

Attendance: 382.
