Chris Wilder says it is impossible to hide the enormity of today’s FA Cup clash with Barrow.

Oxford United’s manager knows that everyone connected with the club is desperate to see their name in the hat for the potentially lucrative third round draw, which takes place tomorrow afternoon.

But he is equally aware that with United firm favourites, he must ensure there is no complaceny in the camp.

“Even though we’re doing great in the league, we look upon this as a massive game for the football club,” Wilder said.

“Everybody talks about the financial situation and what can happen if you get into the third round.

“From my point of view, I want the players to have some personal glory, and team glory, and we want to make sure the fans have a long run in the FA Cup because they’ve been amazing.”

United beat Barrow 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium last Saturday without hitting top gear, something Wilder is keen to put right.

“We need to be better,” he said. “I know from their reports, they thought they were outstanding. We were below par, so we need to raise our game.”

With loan signings Franny Green and Onome Sodje unavailable, U’s skipper Adam Murray returns having been rested for the midweek win over Forest Green.

Left back Steven Kinniburgh is also back in contention after serving his two-match suspension.

“We left Adam out because we felt it was right to give him a breather for that one,” Wilder added.

“I’d looked at him over two or three weeks, and with his injuries last year and then a minor op in the summer, he’s had a lot of football.

“Hopefully the three or four days off that he’s had in terms of doing very little, will help him.”

Barrow boss Dave Bayliss is confident of causing an upset.

“Oxford are a good side and are top of the table, though there wasn't much in the game last Saturday,” he said.

“But we’re not going to go there and be quivering in our boots – we’ve got nothing to lose.”

Former U’s midfielder Craig Nelthorpe and Robin Hulbert are cup-tied, on-loan striker Jon Shaw has gone back to Rochdale, while there is a doubt over leading scorer Jason Walker.

However, Gavin Rothery, Marc Goodfellow and Gregg Blundell – all attacking players signed on loan this week – will be involved.
