Oxford United turned down Kidderminster striker Matthew Barnes-Homer to get Franny Green this week.
Ex-Peterborough striker Green, signed on loan from Kettering, had a fine debut in the U's 1-0 win at Forest Green on Tuesday.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas confirmed they had also had a conversation with Barnes-Homer's agent.
But Barnes-Homer's wage demands and the cost of signing him would have been more than they felt he was worth.
"It wouldn't have been right for the football club and we're delighted with the two strikers (Franny Green and Onome Sodje) that we have brought in," Thomas said.
