Vikings duo Pete Ewins and Mike Jones produced a superb display to knock out favourites Mark Trafford and Kevin Godfrey (Kennington) 3-1 in the Pairs competition.

Kennington took the first leg, Trafford beating Ewins 8,310-5,250, aided by a break of more than 6,000.

But a fine break of 7,000 by Ewins made it 1-1 as he won the second leg 8,690-3,540.

Vikings went 2-1 in a scrappy third game.

And victory was secured in convincing fashion in the fourth leg.

Vikings were 2,690 ahead on aggregate and then Ewins went in with an 8,000 break, while partner Jones chipped in with a 4,000 break to take the leg 14,120-270 and the match 29,980-13,440.

Vikings’ other pair, Bob Allsworth and Alan Lacey eased through as they beat Masons’ Mick Murphy and Martyn Wood 3-0 at the Dolphin Club.

In the Off the Spot competition, Gladiators’ Phil Clark defeated Vikings’ Ian Moss 4,325-1,550 after Moss lost a break of over 3,000.

Masons’ Lewis Stratford saw off Berinsfield’s Craig Mace at the Gladiators Club.

Also through is Kennington’s Steven Sheard, who beat Simon Ellam.

Sheard recorded a break of 10,200 in the first leg and also lost an opening break of 13,400 in the second.

In the Never Won Cup, Democrat’s Terry Green defeated Ian Gordon 2-0, while his clubmate Richard Garrett knocked out Berinsfield’s Eddie Tebby in the Pat Webber Cup with 4,610-4,510 aggregate victory.
