Goalkeeper Michael Anderson, a member of the Oxford United Football and Education Academy, bids for a place in the England Colleges FA squad at Lilleshall this weekend.

The 18-year-old from Bicester takes part in the national squad trial from Friday to Sunday after being selected for the South England Colleges squad.

Anderson, who has played for United’s youth team as well as for the Academy team in the Colleges League, will be battling it out with youngsters from North England for a place in the national squad.

He said: “I’m looking forward to a testing weekend at Lilleshall, but my ultimate goal is to be involved in a game for the college national side and be selected for the tournament in Italy in January.”

Academy coach Ben Thomas added: “The Football and Education Academy are very happy with Michael’s achievements.

“This is the first year we have sent players to the trials and we are very pleased that Michael has been selected. “We would like to wish Michael all the best at the final stage at Lilleshall.”

A former Bicester Community College pupil, Anderson joined the United Academy in September and is studying for a BTEC in sport.

He also plays for Old Woodstock Town in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League.
