Vale of White Horse Under 13s paid the price for a disastrous start as they went down 3-2 to North Dorset in the Meeson League at Shaftesbury Sports College.

North Dorset took the lead after just 25 seconds, and a minute later a wind-assisted shot flew over the head of keeper Tristan Chamberlain to make it 2-0.

Vale fell further behind after ten minutes when they failed to clear a corner.

With the wind at their backs, Vale dominated the second half, and Mason Curtis headed home a Matthew Taylor corner in the first minute.

The home keeper failed to hold a Curtis shot five minutes later, and Jason McCabe headed home from close range, but Vale were unable to force an equaliser.

AN own goal in first-half injury time gave Vale of White Horse Under 11s a 1-0 win over Swindon at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education – and top spot in the County League.

Sam Fletcher’s shot was destined for the far corner when Tommy Ouldridge turned it into his own net under severe pressure from Joe Hartley.

Vale, with Josh Dunn, Conor Dann, Alfie West and Kieron Ormrod solid in defence, maintained the upper hand in the second half without being able to add to their tally.
