Tiverton Tn 1 (Bushin 77)

Didcot Tn 2 (Bartley 43, Stanley 64)

Didcot Town’s fine away form continued as they edged to victory at Tiverton in the Premier Division on Saturday.

The home side looked to have snatched a last-gasp equaliser, only for it to be controversially ruled out.

The stormy weather had not quite died down, and Didcot had a strong breeze in their favour in the first half.

The visitors created most of the early chances.

A free-kick from Morgan Williams was met by Alex Stanley with a bullet header, which crashed against the bar, while Philip John and James Mortimer-Jones drew decent saves out of Tiverton keeper Steve Book.

Debutant Michael Hector and Ian Sampson combined to release Michael Bartley.

Bartley’s pull-back picked out Mark Draycott for what seemed a tap-in, but Book darted across his line to block.

Didcot got the breakthrough two minutes before the break.

A clearance was met with a back-header by Tiverton defender Tom Gardner.

The ball fell short of Book into the path of Bartley, who finished from a tight angle.

The wind dropped for the second half, and after a scrappy opening 15 minutes, Didcot doubled their lead.

A free-kick saw Bartley send the ball into the area, where it was met by a stunning Stanley volley which went in off the bar.

The home side had barely created a chance, but they pulled one back when Joe Bushin slammed the ball into the top left-hand corner.

Tiverton threw everyone forward in the closing stages, including keeper Book.

In a goalmouth melee, the ball fell to Book who drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

But as he wheeled away in delight, no-one had noticed an offside flag.

It was tough luck on Tiverton as Book was clearly onside when he hammered home the loose ball, but the decision stood and Didcot held on.
