Andover 1 (Joryeff 72)

Abingdon Utd 2 (Organ 37, Faulkner 78)

James Faulkner grabbed the winner as Abingdon United stretched their unbeaten run to six matches with this battling Division 1 South & West victory in the Zamaretto Southern League.

His goal came 12 minutes from time to ensure Abingdon retained second spot in the table.

Ben Weedon saw an early effort fly just wide, while at the other end, Jon Beames denied Daryl Charman.

On the half-hour, Beames was again in action, blocking Charman’s effort with some brave keeping.

Abingdon went in front eight minutes before the break.

A free-kick was delivered high to the far post and James Organ rose above his marker to direct a header inside a post.

Faulkner almost doubled Abingdon’s lead, but saw his effort parried by Andover keeper Dave Tasker.

After the break, Elliott Osborne-Ricketts was denied by Tasker.

Faulkner’s cross picked out John Mills in front of goal, but the ball ran away from the Abingdon striker.

Tasker produced another tremendous save to deny Weedon, whose thundering shot was pushed away by a diving Andover keeper.

The home side equalised when a free-kick picked out Kyle Joryeff, who headed past Beames.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, they regained the lead, albeit with a somewhat fortunate goal.

A high cross was dropped by Tasker and as the ball squirmed away, it fell to Faulkner, who found the net from close range.

The home side sent three men up front to try and rescue a point, and in the dying seconds, Massey’s 25-yard effort dipped just over.
