Oxford United and Oxford City were pleased at yesterday’s FA Cup draw – which paired them both with Football League teams.

United were rewarded for a 2-0 win over Thurrock on Saturday with a home tie against League One outfit Yeovil.

And City, who produced a sensational comeback to beat Bury Town 2-1 with a last-minute winner from Andy Gunn, will travel to League Two side Burton.

The games will take place on Saturday, November 7 – unless the chance of a Cup upset prompts TV companies to consider them for one of the live games that weekend.

However, with Paulton Rovers v Norwich, Stourbridge against Walsall and Northwich entertaining Charlton among the other matches, that looks unlikely.

U’s boss Chris Wilder called the draw “great for the players, and great for the fans”.

“It’s a tough tie for us, but a good one,” he said.

“The boot’s on the other foot from against Thurrock on Saturday, and this time we can go out ane enjoy ourselves with nothing to lose.

He added: “It’s good for everyone connected with the club. It’s great for my players and it’s great for the supporters too because there should be a tremendous atmosphere at the stadium.

“They’re a club with a great Cup pedigree and they’re having a decent season. They won 2-1 at Bristol Rovers on Saturday and any team that wins there must have plenty about them.

“So we’re long shots, but if we raise our game a notch, and they drop theirs a bit, who knows? We’ll have a real go.”

Yeovil are 12th in League One, four points off the play-off places.

Oxford City boss Mike Ford admitted he had mixed feelings about their draw.

But he is confident that a trip to Burton gives his side a genuine chance of springing a shock.

“When the draw first came out, I suppose you are a little disappointed because it wasn’t a Leeds, Southampton or Norwich.

“But looking at it, we have a real opportunity to go to a League club and win.

“If we had got Leeds away that would have been a day out for us all, but Burton gives you a chance.

“The club will make a few pennies out of it and we can go there and just give it a real good go.”

Ford added: “It will be the first opportunity for a lot of my players to pitch themselves against professional footballers.

“It will hopefully show them how close they are (to being a professional) and help them try and move to the next level.”
