Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey is telling his young players not to get carried away, despite their run of form.

Banbury, who beat Bridgwater in their midweek FA Trophy replay, could move up to fourth place in the Premier Division with victory over Bedford Town tomorrow.

But although delighted with recent performances, Jeffrey said he wants them to be judged at the end of the season.

“I’m really quite proud of the players,” he said.

“For such a young side, the effort they have been showing in each game is excellent.

“Reviewing where we are now, I’m delighted, but we must keep this work rate up.”

Bedford have been inconsistent this season, but Jeffrey says they will be tough opposition.

He said: “I know quite a bit about Bedford, and although they’ve had one or two bad results, on their day they can be a very powerful side.

“But if we can carry on where we left off on Tuesday we’ll produce a positive result.”

David Stone is out for at least two weeks with a foot injury, while Jon Gardner (knee) is also unlikely to feature.

Didcot Town boss Stuart Peace is relishing the trip over the Severn Bridge into South Wales to take on Merthyr Tydfil.

Merthyr are bottom of the Premier Division after having ten points deducted due to going into administration, but Peace says it will be a difficult place to go to.

“I’m looking forward to the battle. They have a partisan crowd, it’s the Wales against England thing.

“But I enjoy that sort of game, as do the players. It will be like going into the lion’s den.”

James Mortimer-Jones (knee) is still out, while Andy Williams (heel) is doubtful.

Stuart Bridges is attending a wedding, although Philip John returns.

Striker Billy Beechers returns for Abingdon United’s Division 1 South & West clash against Thatcham Town at Northcourt Road after going on a photo shoot.

Beechers missed Abingdon’s 1-0 defeat at Northwood in the FA Carlsberg Trophy last week as he pursued his interest in being a male model.

Skipper Julian McCalmon is also back following a three-match suspension, but midfielder Justin Merritt faces three weeks on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury last weekend.

Pablo Haysham is added to the squad for a match.

Boss Andy Slater said: “Thatcham scored eight against Bracknell in the Trophy, so it will be a tough test for us.”
