Jack Midson feels he has a point to prove when he leads the Oxford United attack against Thurrock.

And he knows just what a good run in the FA Cup can mean to a Conference club – because he had one last year, helping Histon to shock wins over Swindon and Leeds before they eventually fell to Championship side Swansea.

Midson, almost certain to get the nod up front because James Constable and Matt Green are suspended, says that he’s not taking it for granted that he will be starting.

And he also warned his teammates not to take Blue Square South high-fliers Thurrock for granted.

Before they knocked out Swindon and Leeds last season, Histon were held to a replay by little Durham City.

He said: “We were held to a 2-2 draw before winning the replay 5-2 when I scored two of the goals. But passing-wise, Durham were one of the best sides we came up against all season.

“It’s important that the FA Cup doesn’t disrupt our league form, but I don’t think it will.”

Midson added: “I missed the Swansea game, as it happened. My fifth booking fell in that game, and then it was postponed and I thought I’d be playing in the rearranged game, but then the league game just before was cancelled.

“The bookings for Beano and Greeny weren’t done on purpose, though I know some people think they were. I’m sure they didn’t think about it during the game.

“I’m not taking it for granted that I’ll be starting, though hopefully I will be, and if I do it’s a good opportunity for me. I’ve got a bit to prove and hopefully I can keep that shirt, but Thurrock are going to be up for it.

“We’re the biggest club in the competition at the moment, so they’ll be giving it a real go to try and get a big scalp. No-one’s going to be treating them lightly.”
