Oxford City 4 (Steele 24, 29, 41, 58)

Bedford Tn 1 (Lewis 67)

Lee Steele stole the show with all four goals as Oxford City cruised to a comfortable Premier Division victory over Bedford at Court Place Farm on Saturday in the Zamaretto Southern league.

The former Oxford United striker netted three times before half-time to put City out of sight of their visitors.

Keeper Mike Armitt nearly gifted City an early goal, when hashed clearance – theball falling to Darren Pond, who fired wide of an empty goal.

Armitt was a busy man, making saves from Mark Bell and Dave Savage before Steele opened the scoring midway rhrough the first half, wrong-footing the defence before firing home Five minutes later, Bell found Mark Janes whose header came back to Steele, who pivoted to score.

An isolated effort from Bedford’s Callum Lewis went wide before Steele completed his hat-trick following a neat one-two with Bell.

In the second half, Bedford’s Craig Daniel made a dash down the left, before finding Tony Battersby who was denied by City keeper Richard Knight.

After 58 minutes , Steele completed his tally. The influential Bell roasted his challengers, going to the byeline before crossing to Steele, who tapped in.

Bedford replied in the 67th minute when Lewis bundled the ball in following a mix-up.

But it was too little to late to ruin City’s – and Steele’s – day.
