A SUPER half-century from William Bull was not enough as Oxfordshire Under 12s completed their season with an exciting, but ultimately disappointing one-wicket defeat against Northamptonshire at Stonesfield.

Oxon won the toss and decided to bat, but their top order struggled against some tight bowling.

It wasn’t until Angus Brown joined Bull to share a seventh-wicket stand of 73 that Oxfordshire’s innings gained momentum.

Bull scored a fine 52 before being run out, while Brown chipped in with a valuable 22 as Oxon reached 137 all out.

Northants’ innings started slowly, and as Oxon built the pressure, wickets began to tumble.

Louis Pennington was the pick of the bowlers with 3-21, while Max Mannering (2-27) and Alex Davies (2-38) also shone.

But Oxon could not shift Northants No 3 Patrick McDuell, whose 42 saw them home at 138-9.
