Rissington did not live up to its usual high standard last Sunday for the tenth match in the Carp League 2009 series fished by 15, writes Andy Webber.

Even so, the top three all hit the ton, Mick Lane emerging the winner with a bag of carp on paste for 134.2.0.

Not far behind was Nick Dean (Maggots End) with 124.14.0 on caster fished shallow at 12 metres, followed by Ivan Graham (J&K), who used corn and weighed in 110.14.0.

Points after 10 matches: A Benwell (Predator) 31, M Lane/R Guppy (RS Baits) 37, D Hawkins 42.

Twenty anglers fished Kinloch AC’s match at Drayton, where some good weights were recorded.

Phil Weston topped the field with 162.8.0 of carp on the method with either pellet or small boilies on the hook.

Also using the method, but with banana flavoured boilies, Dave William banked 72.6.0 of carp for second place, while Joe Welch did the same, alternating between maggot and pellet for 68.12.0.

Beehive AC fished for their Pairs Cup in glorious sunshine at Lower Court, where the 17 anglers found the carp more interested in sun bathing.

Kevin Jeacock secured his fifth win on the trot with 72.6.0, all carp from the margins to maggot.

Nigel Waters was second with 44.12.0 of carp to pole and corn, and Robert Bennett was third with 43.6.0 on the pole with maggot.

Fifteen members of North Oxford AS fished their annual outing at Stable Lake, Kirtlington, which proved patchy in the bright conditions.

Kidlington tackle shop owner Tony Wright came out on top. Feeding small pellets and using paste on the hook, he netted 58.11.0.

Jason Bean scraped home in second place with 30.8.0 on pellet and corn, pipping Henry Clarke with 29.2.0.

After the rain on Thursday, the Cherwell at the School Waters was running fast and dirty for the eight Oxford Bus AC members who turned out for their latest match.

Anthony Tompkins triumphed with 15.14.0, comprising three nice bream, plus roach and perch on pole and double red maggot.

Fishing next to the winner, Mark Heath used caster to catch a good bag of roach and perch for 11.3.0 and second, followed by Pete Clarke with 5.8.0 of roach and perch.

There was plenty of flow on the Thames at the start of the Jolly Anglers’ Bill Biggs Cup fished by nine on their BMH stretch. It decreased during the match and there were plenty of small fish caught.

Fishing the pole with maggot, Phil Ansell took the cup with 13.10.0 – 80 small roach and skimmers.

Tony Davies finished second with skimmers on groundbait feeder and maggot worth 7.12.0, and third with another net of skimmers was Warren Cave with 6.7.0.

To cope with the variable speed of the river at Sandford, the 16 Oxford Waltonians fishing the Coronation and Pairs Cups had to be versatile.

The eventual winner was Tony Gee (Acorn Angling) who fished the stick float with bronze maggot to weigh in 10.15.0 of little roach.

With two tench, the best going over 5lb, Lee Funge was second with 10.8.0 on a chopped worm feeder.

Fishing the whip with maggot, Paul Bowers caught small roach, bleak and skimmers for a third-placed 4.15.0.

Benson’s Lewis Cup was fished by seven on the Thames.

Mick Marriott netted a decent bream, plus skimmers, roach and perch, on groundbait feeder and maggot for a winning 8.12.0.

Tony Krason used similar tactics for second place with 5.8.0, which included some quality roach.

Also catching roach, but this time using a cage feeder with liquidised bread and flake, Ian Fisher had 4.14.0 for third.

Sutton Courtenay took on Radcot on the Thames at Appleford and the 26 matchmen found the river flowing like an express train, but it fished reasonably.

Craig Curtis (Radcot) weighed in 8.7.0 of skimmers and bits on groundbait feeder for first place, followed by teammate Brian Ballard with 6.12.0 on pole with maggot.

John Swan settled for third place with 6.3.0 of skimmers and perch, rounding off a big team win for Radcot.

The Thame at Chistlehampton was off-song for Cuddesdon Mill VAA’s Hue Williams Memorial fished by 11 members.

Fishing a stick float and maggot, Brian Cakebread caught 3.4.0 of bits, while Brian Hutching and Keith Nash tied for second with 3.0.0.

The coach for Masons’ annual outing will be at the Six Bells, Headington Quarry at 6am on August 22 and will leave at 6.30am.
