Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey will be looking to the partnership of ex-Rugby Town duo David Stone and Jason Taylor to fire them to success in this season’s Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division campaign, which starts on Saturday with the visit of Stourbridge.

Taylor, who also played for Rushden & Diamonds, is now raring to go after fully recovering from a knee injury that saw him miss the whole of last season, while Stone is hoping to carry on where he left off last term.

Banbury have recruited talented midfielder Declan Benjamin and fellow youngster, defender Marvin Martin, who have signed on loan from Oxford United, plus left back Steve Davis who has joined from Oxford City, though he will miss the first four games as he has a two-week suspension from last season.

However, Jeffrey could have problems with the rest of the side as they are beset with injury worries.

Already without their former Oxford United youngster Luke Bennett for the season with a cruciate knee injury, Banbury have injury worries over Aaron Stringfellow (leg), Dave Buckwell (groin), Jack Ashton (hamstring) and Ollie Stanbridge (ankle).

Jeffrey wants his side to cut out the defensive frailties that cost them last campaign.

“We will have to be tighter at the back,” he said. “I want us to try to improve and get off to a good start. It’s very important to get the points in the bag as early as possible.”
