Boss Stuart Peace is confident his promoted Didcot Town team will be able to hold their own when they kick off their Zamaretto Southern LEague Premier Division campaign at Clevedon on Saturday.

During the summer, Didcot lost the services of goalscoring midfielder Jack King, who went to rivals Farnborough, and Philip John.

In have come a host of new signings in the shape of ex-Oxford United youngster Matt Taylor, Mark Draycott, from Swindon Supermarine, Jason Costello, from Ardley United, and winger Stuart Bridges from Banbury United.

Matty Jack has rejoined from Hungerford and Liam Hope is back from North Leigh.

At the back, Andy Williams, Jamie Heapy and Martin Brown have all signed deals, while Ian Sampson, who was with the Railwaymen last season, has joined on loan from Oxford United for six months.

“I haven’t got a clue how we will do, but I am hoping we will give a good account of ourselves,” said Peace.

“We have lost a few players. Jack scored 50 goals in his two seasons here, so he will be a big loss, but we have some good players here.

“Liam Hope and Matty Jack haven’t played at this level, so they will have something to prove.”

Peace, who will be without suspended striker Michael Bartley for the first three games, added: “I think we have enough quality to certainly compete in this league.”
