THE third round of the Oxford Summer League was staged between Medley and Folly on the Thames, which fished well, especially at Folly where only four anglers failed to record double figures.

The top weight of 23.10.0 was made up of three good bream and several skimmers which gave Mark Bowerman (Sensas A4) first place.

Pegged just above the 'mudflats', he used worm with a groundbait feeder.

Second was Tony Hobbs (Garbolino Banbury Gunsmiths) on the productive Folly stretch. He had 18.0.0 of skimmers, perch and good roach, all caught on pole with segments of worm over chopped worm and caster fed with a baitdropper.

Steve Townsend (Oxford Drennan GOT Baits) was only four ounces behind with three bream and some skimmers on long pole fished over chopped worm.

Team-wise, Oxford Drennan GOT Baits just edged out Shakespeare by 46 points to 45. Garbolino Banbury Gunsmiths were third.

Halfway through the series, Oxford Drennan GOT Baits are just four points in front of Shakespeare with three rounds to go.

Lower Court produced some huge nets of carp for the 17 anglers contesting the latest Carp League 2009 match.

Andy Benwell (Predator) came out top with 114.14.0 using chop, caster and paste, while Phil Powell fed hemp and fished caster hard on the bottom for 102.13.0 and second place.

Ivan Graham (J&K Tackle drew the chimney peg and fished maggot down the edge for 71.4.0 and third.

Beehive AC went for an afternoon match at Stable Lake to take in the evening sunshine, but instead the 15 members endured a swirling wind and rain that made the job difficult.

Kevin Jeacock won with 54.8.0 of carp to pole, maggot and hemp. Martin Wilkinson caught bream on pole and pellet for 41.12.0 and second spot, followed by Shaun Percy, who fished pole and maggot for 32.2.0 of carp.

The Carp Class 2009 Summer League was fished by 16 on the first and middle lakes at Butler’s Hill, with the top two weights coming from the middle lake.

Dave Wilsdon fished paste to take small carp for a wining 35.10.0, while Phil Weston finished second with 33.0.0 of small carp on the pole and chopped worm.

Fred Harrison was on the first lake and alternated between bread and chopped worm to catch carp and skimmers for a third-placed 30.12.0, while a total of 253.10.0 was caught during the five-hour match.

Martin MacDonald won the Jolly Anglers’ E Nunn Cup fished by nine on the Oxford Reach of the Thames which performed well, with plenty of roach and skimmers being caught.

The winner had roach and skimmers on the waggler and maggot and then went on the groundbait feeder for a nice bream of 5.14.0, plus some skimmers for 24.10.0.

Also fishing the waggler and maggot, Bill Davis had a net of roach and skimmers for a second-placed 14.5.0, while third with 12.12.0 of roach and skimmers on maggot and waggler was Phil Ansell.

The Roach Cup was won by Steve Wheatley with 2.12.0.

Oxford Bus AC were on their ‘School Waters’ where the eight anglers found the Cherwell had hardly any flow.

Pete Clarke fished the pole and maggot for 9.5.0 of perch, small roach and bleak to take top spot.

Anthony Tompkins caught roach, perch and skimmers on maggot for 6.10.0, and third with a bag of roach and perch weighing 4.12.0 was James Pagano.
